Unplug & Unwind

There’s no internet.  There’s no cable (but that doesn’t keep us from watching “Frozen” 15 times in 3 days).  We swim, we boat, we sit, we talk and we eat.  John and I did manage to pick up our phones for a few pictures though, so I thought I’d share a bit of our weekend with you!

This Fourth of July we spent at John’s parent’s cottage.  It’s in a great spot on Lake Erie where we can watch the sunset perfectly every night.  Alex loves going to Gamma and Gampa’s house on the “ocean”.  He gets to ride in the big boats and see the sailboat runners (that’s the product of John teaching him the words “wave runner” and “sailboat” in the same 5 minute span).

It was an awesome weekend of relaxation; in a new sense of the word with two kiddos.  We got to spend a few days with Sarah, Jose and Parker (oh, and Tuga who ate almost an entire, delicious, coffee cake =]).  Sarah and I even got 1 1/2 hours to ourselves floating in the lake.  Ah-mazing.

I love when these two little stinkers get together.  Double trouble.

And of course we had the weekend with Gamma and Gampa and Zoie and Patches.  It was a packed weekend at the cottage this time around.  My MIL had her cousin there with her husband and two kids, so it was really a blast!  A special thanks to Julie and Dean for Christian’s adorable new outfits and for Alex’s “cool, awesome bump tuck (dump truck)”.

John, Dean, and Jenna got some fishing in, which is something John absolutely loves to do up there.  His grandpa has a cottage just across the channel (you can see it to the right of John) , so he grew up weekend-ing here with his family.  He always talks about fishing off the pier and how he can’t wait for Alex and Christian to be able to fish with him.  Is it just me, or is Father/Son bonding adorable??  Please excuse Luna begging for the fish!

The guys went out on the wave runners and were all complaining of being sore the next day.  The sign of a good time I suppose??  They were going WAY too fast in my opinion =].  So, when John took me out, he was nice smart enough to keep it under 20mph.

A lot of my weekend was spent on the couch or in a chair because Christian decided July 4th weekend was the perfect time to have a growth spurt.  There was a lot of nursing happening.  It worked out though because Alex really wanted to watch Frozen, back to back to back everyday.  We don’t own it (for obvious reasons), so it’s a special treat that he gets to watch his favorite movie at the cottage.  So he and I sang the Frozen song and Happy Snowman!  A lot.

Each night there was a gorgeous sunset over the lake.

We spent some time over at John’s Grandpa’s cottage too.  Christian got a little extra lovin’ from cousin Lauren =]

And from everyone for that matter.  I’m not sure he was put down for much of the weekend.

And I had my own little snuggle buddy bed hog at night.

It’s really freeing to disconnect for a weekend.  I sometimes lose my phone while we are there because I just don’t use it.  We are so thankful that we are able to get away from it all and spend some time with family and friends.

As we drove out along the water, we heard a little voice in the backseat say “bye-bye ocean”  then it was quiet.  A sign of a good weekend.
