Overdue.

Good morning and I just realized this is my 100th post!  Whoa!!!

Nine Months

Well, I have never been 40 weeks and 1 day pregnant before.  It’s sort of a weird feeling because you build up your due date so much throughout pregnancy and then it comes and goes with not a whole lot of excitement.  At my appointment yesterday, my doctor told me to keep a positive attitude and that all babies come out eventually.  Thanks, doc!  I’m not sure if he’s telling me to stay positive because I’m nowhere near going into labor or if I am already moving in the right direction.  It could go either way.

Since I had Alex via c-section (you can read more about that here and here), I was given the option of having a repeat c-section or (since I have a low-risk pregnancy) the chance to try a VBAC (Vaginal Birth after Cesarean).  I have opted for the VBAC option as major abdominal surgery does not strike my fancy.  My doc gave me the week to wait it out for a natural onset of labor, but if we get to 41 weeks, we will probably have to schedule a repeat c-section.  I’ve been asked a lot why they wouldn’t induce before going straight for another c-section.  It’s because the risk of uterine rupture increases with an induction after c-section and most doctors won’t even attempt it (unless you only need a little push to get going on your own).  So, our plain is to wait it out for another 6 days and hopefully Christian decides to come on his own!

In all honesty, I’m not rushing this thing until I get close to my cut-off.  I’m really trying to soak up these last few days (hours?) of having just one child.  I really can’t wait to meet Christian, and more than that, I can’t wait for Alex to meet him!!  I’m just a little afraid of having two small children needing me.  I’m sure I will take it all in stride with the help of my wonderful husband who is going to stay up all night with me.  Right, dear?

Alex has been getting some practice being a big brother at the library with the baby dolls.  He loves to carry them around.  We will leave out the fact that he tends to throw them on the ground in favor of the dinosaurs.  It’s something we are working on.  He talks about the baby a lot which is really reassuring.  I hope he still feels the same way about his brother when he is no longer a bump, but an actual baby.  I think they are going to be best buds who plot against me during the day.  It’ll be adorable.

He even wanted in on the belly pictures.  Telling me exactly how I should be taking the photos.

In these last couple of weeks, I have been a crocheting machine.  I’m so happy that I didn’t get Carpal tunnel this time around and have been able to craft with my nimble little fingers!   I’ve been working on this blanket for Christian’s nursery.  I still have to do another block of the orange and white stripes, but I didn’t buy enough yarn.  Whoops!  So at this point it looks like half a blanket.

I’m hoping to finish it before I go into labor, so I better get going to the store for that yarn!

Hopefully, this will be my last pregnancy update for you guys and, I can totally spam you with adorable baby pictures for my next update!  For now, I have a lot to clean, craft, and organize.  Oh, and a lot of snuggling to do with my little man.
