DIY Woodland Nursery Tree Art

Easy Graphic Tree Art

Does anybody remember this gem?

Tree Window 1

I made it just over a year ago for our guest bedroom makeover that I was working on.

Well, seeing as we will no longer have a guest bedroom per-se, I figured it would be okay if I stole this for a nursery project.

My original inspiration came from here.  I thought it would go great in Christian’s woodland themed nursery while keeping things on the more modern side.  I don’t want to get too woodsy/cabin in there.  But, instead of making it a print, I thought I could use the old rustic window to paint on.  Genius, I know.

So, I started off with my “bubble-gum” looking art on the window.  I decided to first try scraping the paint off with a razor blade because I thought washing the window would become a big smeary mess.  Thankfully, scraping worked like a charm and I was left with a big dusty/shavings mess that I just vacuumed right up!  I did wipe down the glass afterwards to start with a clean surface for painting again.

I used a tree graphic from PicMonkey and just transferred it into Word so I could print 4 trees out.  I then taped the two sheets together so the trees were all in line and evenly spaced.  I taped it to the front of the window, facing backwards.

This way, when I traced with the dry erase marker, I wasn’t writing on the side that I eventually wanted to paint.  Make sense?

Tree Window 5

This left me with an easy template to follow on the front side of my window once I had all of my trees evenly spaced and traced.  Then I just filled them in with white craft paint (all except the one that I painted orange).

After painting all of the trees, I wasn’t loving the fact that they were less than perfect.  I didn’t want them to be too perfect, but they just looked sloppy to me (so sloppy I didn’t even take a picture).  So I pulled out my trusty razor blade and cleaned up the edges of all of the trees.  It looks so much better, trust me!   You can see the comparison with the orange tree.  That one was still drying while I fixed up the white trees.

Tree Window 6

I kind of love it!  It’s the perfect mix of modern/rustic/woodland for Christian’s room.

Here it is in the room.  It will probably be hung on the wall eventually because that piece that it is sitting on will be making the move to Alex’s room pretty soon!

And because tiny things are so darn cute.

Tree Window 10

Those are his adorable cloth diapers with some booties from my parents (Bison Booties via Etsy –seriously love these things) and some tiny sweaters that my grandmother knit for the little man.

I mean, how cute are those?  Alex has a pair of the booties that he pretty much won’t take off.  He is no longer interested in regular shoes.

So that is the latest on the nursery front!  Three weeks and 1 day until estimated D-Day…

Anybody else decorating a nursery, painting on windows or buying adorable booties?
