A Year Ago Today…Part 1

I was scrubbing my bath tub, just like any other woman at 9 months pregnant would be doing.  Making sure everything was perfect for when our little bean arrived.

At 11:07 a.m. I heard the tail end of my ring tone, so I waited for a voicemail to be left for me.  I listened to my OB say “I need to talk to you about the ultrasound that you had today, in fact, I think it is time to have us a baby.” (this is still saved on my phone)  Instant panic!  But my due date isn’t until tomorrow and I was just waiting to go into labor naturally!  So, I called her back and she asked if we could be at the hospital that afternoon.  I told her I needed to call John, but I’m sure we can be there whenever.  And of course, I asked if I could finish cleaning my tub first.  Again, totally normal.  I let John know what was going on and he came home a few minutes later (he works right in the town where we live).  I took a bath to calm my nerves a bit because, oh my goodness, I am going to have a baby one way or another in the next few days!

Last belly picture before the hospital!

We called our parents and they all said they would be there that evening.  We left for the hospital and checked in around 2:30 or 3:00 p.m.  We got comfortable in our room while they monitored me and Alex for a few hours.

At around 5:00 p.m. my doctor came in to talk to us and to get started with the induction.  She said this part would most likely not put me into labor.  It was just supposed to get me ready for the Pitocin in the morning.  I thought I could get a good nights sleep and be ready for the real work the next day.  Wrong.

At the tail end of our families visiting, I started to have pretty painful contractions.  So much for a restful night!  I couldn’t get comfortable in bed so I finally moved to the rocking chair.  I asked for some cereal and milk (huge pregnancy craving) around 1:00 am and settled in to watch some TV.

“John.  John! Call the nurse.”

“Why??”

“I think my water just broke.”
